Ideas to Get You Started!

undefinedIn addition to helping with your wedding planning, social media is a great way to both help inspire you, and get friends and family involved in helping to capture your wedding festivities, including the events leading up to the big day. The best part is, whether your guests are social media novices, connoisseurs or anything in-between, there are lots of ways to get them engaged. Here are some ideas to get you started:

Pinterest – this online pinboard can be your new best friend as your plan your wedding. Just type in your search terms (i.e. – teal flowers) and you’ll be amazed at what comes up! Pinterest is a great resource for providing decoration inspiration, especially for your Do-It-Yourself projects. You can even create a secret board, so nobody else can see the wedding ideas you’re gathering ahead of time.

Hashtagging – A hashtag (# symbol) acts as a filtration system on many of the world’s most popular social networks including Twitter, Instagram and Facebook so you can easily find photos your loved ones have taken that pertain to your wedding. First, you’ll need to choose a dedicated hashtag that is specific to your event. Before you start using it however, it is recommended that you do some research and see if it’s been used by others. You will want something that is distinctive, but easy to remember so your pictures don’t get lost in the shuffle. Once you have your hashtag, encourage guests to use it! You can promote it on your save-the-dates, bridal shower invitations and wedding invitations. You can also ask your bridal party to promote the hashtag to anyone they speak to about the wedding.

Smartphone Apps – There are lots of apps out there to help with everything from pictures and dress shopping to hair, makeup and more. Highlights include:

  • WedPics – WedPics is a photo sharing app for weddings. Available as a free download, the wedding couple will be asked to create an account so a dedicated wedding ID can be assigned. The couple can add their own pictures, registry details, hotel information and more. After guests download the app and enter the wedding ID provided by the couple, they can upload their own pictures and sort through photos from other guests. Users can order prints directly through WedPics.
  • Instagram – Just enter any wedding-related hashtag and you’re bound to see inspirational photos. Some great ones to start with are #wedding #weddingdress #weddingideas #honeymoon, but use your imagination!
  • Wedding Party – How cool would it be to have your very own wedding app? Now you can! Wedding Party is a free download that is fully customizable and user-friendly. Couples can upload photos, wedding details, registry information and more, providing guests with a quick and simple way to access all of the necessary details for the big day.
  • Facebook – Without a doubt, lots of guests will be snapping photos with their smartphones and uploading them onto their newsfeed on your wedding day. Remind them to tag you in everything so you can easily see the amazing moments they’ve captured.
